In 2012 Sani Resort will be continuing its work on the celebrated green projects to preserve and protect the environment that surrounds the resort. For the first time Sani will be offering guests a chance to get even more involved in the projects that it takes so much pride in. Guests will have the opportunity to watch some of the incredible birds in the wetlands area. There will also be the opportunity to visit local farms and learn about the process of making oils and jams. Children will love the exciting new games and activities, teaching them about the nature and animals that live in the reserve. Sani Resort is a fantastic holiday destination for guests wanting to combine luxury and nature.

Sani Green Initiatives 2012

Sani Wetlands Book: A Bird Sanctuary
To complement the resorts fantastic wetlands, Sani has published a beautiful coffee table book that will be available to guests in their suites and for purchase.

Guided Tours by Bird Experts
Bird lovers will now be given the incredible opportunity to explore Sani's wetlands with their very own tour guide. This has been made possible as the resort has joined forces with the Action on Wildlife group, a not for profit organisation that protects and rehabilitates injured birds. Guests will get to witness bird rehabilitation and the release program in action, a must see for bird lovers of all ages.

Complimentary Farm Visits
For those who have always fancied themselves as a farmer, this is the perfect opportunity to try out a spot of farming at some of the local organic farms. These farms supply the Sani hotels with the majority of the fruit and vegetables that are used. The produce is grown without the use of chemical and by using traditional Greek farming methods. Guests will learn about the produce, taste it and even help the farmers pick olives, nectarines, strawberries and other seasonal fruit.

Ecological Learning Games for Children
Sani Resort has created an extensive collection of games and activities for children to combine holiday fun with learning. Through this, Sani's young guests will learn about the biodiversity of the forest, as well the environmental practices such as composting or cooking with local fruit.

Landscaping of Lake Mavrobara
Lake Mavrobara is the highest lake in the Halkidiki region; the lake is extremely special as it is home to very rare and endangered sea turtles. With the help of forestry and biodiversity experts, in 2012 Sani Resort will be landscaping the area around the lake which was destroyed by a fire in 2009. By landscaping the area both the public and guests of Sani will be able to enjoy this beautiful area and hopefully catch a glimpse of the endangered sea turtles.

The Plant a Tree Programme
For the fourth year running Sani Resort will continue planting trees in the Halkidiki region. With the help of its guests and NGO Friends of Urban Green thousands of trees have already been planted. Guests are asked to contribute one Euro on check out, which Sani pledges to match. For 2012 guests are being invited to learn about the reforested areas and get to see how the programme is helping the local environment.

Other Green Initiatives for 2012
- Awards and Certificates: Sani Green has continued to receive recognition for its dedication to the environment. In 2011 the programme was awarded the Green Key award for the third year running, the Travelife Gold Status and Blue Flags for the protection of the beaches along the Sani coastline.
- Animal Rescue programme: Sani Resort helps guests adopt stray animals from Sani and the surrounding area. This programme is extremely popular with guests and 2012 will see it go into its fourth year.
- Use of Solar Energy: Sani Resort uses solar energy to supply some of the resort with hot water.
-  Recycling water: Recycled water is used for maintaining the Sani grounds and gardens.
- Recycling waste: Sani is extremely conscious of its waste and recycles paper, glass, aluminium, batteries and old appliances, as well as using cooking oil as a biofuel.
